Dementi Vom Hause Wagner (Dakota)
Mafia Danes is very particular about the Danes that we bring into our home. Approx. 1 year ago, we knew that we would like to add a new family member to our current crew of two so I began my search for an outstanding female puppy. When I found our breeder in Germany, all I had to do was to wait for the "perfect" female. It took several litters until I found our new little German Girl. Her pedigree was perfect and her parents were gorgeous. Her breeder sent me a few photos as she grew so that I could watch her progress.
Dakota arrived at Dulles Airport in VA on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 4:00pm. She came in on a pallet along with two other dogs from Frankfort, Germany; an adult golden retriever and an adult pomeranian, and some mice and turtles. She weighed 22 lbs and was only 8 weeks and 1 day old.
She was very calm and quiet and didn't move very much. I had her stretch her legs a bit and gave her some fresh water as her nose was dry. Everyone at the airport gushed over how adorable and sweet she was. I then placed her in the back of our truck to venture back home for another 2 hour drive. She decided she would have no more of her travel crate so she found the one place where she would lay quietly; my lap, of where she laid the whole way home.
Once home, she played in our yard for a little bit. When we finally felt she was comfortable, we introduced her to Kallie and Kyra of which they all took to one another immediately. She is an amazing addition to our family!
Sadly, I lost my baby girl on my birthday due to complications that we had been battling from a surgery. She got an infection while at the Vets during a surgery to tack her stomach to help prevent bloat. I can't state enough how sensitive these wonderful large babies are to anesthesia and surgical procedures. Always approach ANY surgery with caution and care.
