Zena

"On December 28, after taking her morning walk she collapsed. We rushed her to our vet where he found fluid in her abdomen, and what looked like a tumor on her spleen. We took her to an emergency clinic next where it was confirmed that she is suffering from internal bleeding, most likely due to ruptured spleen. The rupture was clearly caused by multiple tumors that we can clearly see with a better equipment in the larger clinic.

Since tumors appear to be localized in the spleen, we requested an emergency splenectomy. Surprisingly, the surgery went well and she started to recover. We visited her in the clinic every day. On the 29th she was fully awake, and was holding her head. She recognized us and we spent few very good and hopeful moments with her telling what a good girl she was. Unexpectedly, clinic called us around midnight to say that she stoped breathing we authorized CPR and rushed back to the hospital. By the time we get there she was breathing on her own. Everyone at the clinic was very surprised and very hopeful. We spent few (as it turned out) last moment with her. At approximately 1:30 AM on December 30th 2016, Zena had stoped breathing again and her heart rate started to drop. After discussing our option we asked doctors to ease Zena’s suffering and let her pass peacefully.

Tanya, we really want to thank you for bringing such an amazing being in our lives. In her 10 years she gave us nothing but joy. She loved and was loved by everyone she met. To our surprise the entire team at the hospital was crying when she passed on. Zena’a departure left a huge hole in our hearts. Although we knew this day would come we were absolutely not prepared. I really hoped to have couple more years with her, and I’m really sorry that we could not do anything else to keep her alive and happy.

We are sending you Zena’s picture on one of her final hikes. These were taken on Nov 6, 2016. I hope she enjoid every moment of her life with us as we loved having her in our lives.

Thank you again for a wonderful dog."
