Great Dane Growth Chart
Dane puppies generally should gain 3-5 lbs. per week during their rapid growth phase. Weighing puppies regularly can help prevent problems. This is only a general guide and will vary with each individual Dane. Our Danes are most from European decent and also typically grow at a different rate than their American cousins. We also strive to keep our Danes growth very slow so that they have time to mature and fill out without the many growth complications that Danes are known for. (To help continue this slow growth, see our section on Proper Dane Diet)
Always remember, with Danes, less is more! Your beautiful Dane will still grow to the same size-potential whether you force it to happen quickly (detrimental to your Dane) or at a slow, steady, and healthy rate. The end size will still be the same, but you may cause you and your Dane unnecessary heart aches in the process. At this, I must also stress the importance of knowing that even the RUNT of the litter, may still grow to be the biggest out of his/her littermates! See our section on Don't Judge The Runt. You may be surprised!
Some danes may actually weigh less/be smaller than this chart indicates & a few may weigh more, but more in this case may mean the pup is being overfed &/or growing too fast. In this case, watch out for knuckling over, Pano, and worse, HOD. For more information, visit our section about Great Dane Health Concerns. Our Euro Danes are usually much bigger boned and heavier boned dogs can be more prone to joint & bone problems.
